The pumpkin lantern was originally placed by the Druid priests (not the CELTA NAME... but a caste of priests) at the door of the chosen family whose child they were going to sacrifice that night as a human sacrifice for the community.
If the child was not given, the whole family was slaughtered. So much for the cute jack-o'-lantern in front of the houses.

Anton Szandor LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan, considered Halloween night to be the greatest celebration of Satan worship.
One of his astonishing statements was, "I am glad that Christian parents allow their children to worship Satan at least once a year."
Let everyone decide for themselves if they want to expose themselves, their family, their children to a cutesy-looking parade celebrating this holiday that goes against every principle of holiness... Christianity, opening the door to potential spiritual events that will have a soul-destroying effect in the long run.

According to Druid lore, the world between the living and the dead blurs on the evening of 31 October. The ghosts of the dead return, along with fairies and other demons, to haunt people.
On this night, the Celts dress up in scary masks to trick the evil spirits into leaving them alone. This belief alone would not be a problem, but there is much more to it than that.
Unfortunately, the fact is that, in addition to this, the druids, out of a strange religious conviction, executed people and children with brutal cruelty on this night.
In fact, on this night, death reaped its harvest. In addition to human sacrifices, animals were also sacrificed by burning them alive.
This is the satanic spiritual element that really defines the true face of this holiday.
How did the ritual take place?
'When night fell on 31 October, the Druid clans donned their white hooded cloaks and, holding sarlos and the Celtic cross, began their torchlight procession.
At the start of the procession, they killed a slave and dragged him behind them with a rope tied around his left ankle. The druids would march until they came to a house or village, at which point they would shout their trick-or-treat demands.
They always claimed a slave girl or other female.
If the inhabitants did not give any of their daughters away, the Druids would paint large hexagrams, or six-pointed stars, on the doors and walls of the village houses with the blood of the dead slave.
They then summoned the "horned hunter of the night" to frighten someone from that house or village to death during the night.
If the inhabitants of the house or village gave the "treat", the Druids would place a pumpkin carved in the shape of a man's face in front of the house or gate.
A candle made of human tallow was lit in the carved gourd to ward off evil spirits. Thus, the "Jack O' Lantern" symbolizes cooperation with Satan.
Perhaps unbelievable to many, this ruthless ritual is the origin of the popular "trick or treat" tradition.
The house-to-house druids, if they did not get a person to sacrifice, would "witch" the house or cast a curse on the occupants," according to "America's Occult Holidays" p. 20.
The hexagrams painted on the walls attracted a demonic army and then possessed the house with the aim of driving the occupants mad or frightening them to death.
However, when the master of the house rented out a member of his household, he was given a grinning gourd lamp, which symbolized that the house was guarded by Satan at night.
This is a pathetic imitation of the Passover feast, when the blood of the lamb was smeared on the half-tree to protect the inhabitants of the house from the angel of death.
In fact, it is these rituals of the druids that are enacted when parents let their children go peddling to neighbours and around the neighbourhood to beg sweets from the householders.
The candy is nothing more than a symbol of sacrifice.
